Hell Box:

Simone’s Notes:

Human sacrifice was practiced by many ancient cultures. People would be ritually killed in a manner that was supposed to please or appease a god or spirit. While not widely known, human sacrifices for religious reasons still exist today in a number of nations. Some occasions for human sacrifice found in multiple cultures on multiple continents include:

Human sacrifice to accompany the dedication of a new temple or bridge.

Sacrifice of people upon the death of a king, high priest or great leader; the sacrificed were supposed to serve or accompany the deceased leader in the next life.

Human sacrifice in times of natural disaster. Droughts, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc. were seen as a sign of anger or displeasure by deities, and sacrifices were supposed to lessen the divine ire.

Some of the best known ancient human sacrifices were those practiced by various Pre-Columbian civilizations of Mesoamerica. The Aztec were particularly noted for practicing this on an unusually large scale; a human sacrifice would be made every day to aid the sun in rising, the dedication of the great temple at Tenochtitlan was reportedly marked with the sacrificing of thousands, and there are multiple accounts of captured Conquistadores being sacrificed during the wars of the Spanish conquest of Mexico. In Scandinavia, the old Scandinavian religion contained human sacrifice, and both the Norse sagas and German historians relate of this, see e.g. Temple at Uppsala and Blot. There is evidence to suggest Pre-Hellenic Minoan cultures practiced human sacrifice. Sacrificed corpses were found at a number of sites in the citadel of Knossos in Crete. The north house at Knossos contained the bones of children who appeared to have been butchered. It is possible they may have been for human consumption as was the tradition with sacrificial offerings made in Pre-Hellenic Civilization. The myth of Theseus and the Minotaur provides evidence that human sacrifice was commonplace. In the myth, we are told that Athens sent seven young men and seven young women to Crete as human sacrifices to the Minotaur. This ties up well with the archaeological evidence that most sacrifices were of young adults or children. Human sacrifice still happens today as an underground practice in some traditional religions, for example in muti killings. Human sacrifice is no longer officially condoned in any country, and these cases are regarded as murder. In Hindu narratives, practicing human sacrifice and eating human meat was a work of the demons. In the Aeneid by Virgil, the character Sinon claims that he was going to be a human sacrifice to Poseidon to calm the seas.

On January thirty-first, the day of sacrifice came. Edward had the perfect candidate ready. Lolly had practically been eating out of his hand. The scheme was like a little game to him. He would “heal” her grandmother for a short time and then make her sick again. Lolly kept praying and giving him treats to so that he caught keep the old lady better. Edward worked the girl’s beliefs and enjoyed every second of it. She was just a perfect little mindless doll to him. Mind you, he didn’t do anything perverted to her. As much as Edward wanted to, he wasn’t allow to deflower the girl. “The sacrifice had to be pure,” Manami told him. So, Edward did everything in his power not to show his true colors to Lolly. He just stayed content with toying and using the girl. But alas, all good games have to end sometime. Three weeks of this proved to be rather boring. But now, it was to wrap up. “Damn it,” Edward thought. “It was fun while it lasted.” But, it was what it was.

Edward followed Lolly home and waited outside her bedroom window until she went to bed. Once all of the lights were out, he flew over to the window and peeked inside. The girl was in bed sound asleep. The incubus alchemist smirked to himself. “Sweet dreams,” he thought coldly. “They’ll be the last you’ll ever have!” At eleven o’clock, Edward tapped on the glass. The girl slowly roused from slumber. She looked up to the incubus looking in at her. Her heart leapt up in her chest. Lolly quickly got up of bed and hurried over to the window.

“Angel!” she whispered as she unlatched and opened it wide. Edward leaned in, looking very grave. Lolly noticed the look on his face.

“Angel,” the girl said. “Angel, what’s wrong?” Edward looked away as if to hide his tears. Lolly lightly shook his shoulder.

“Hey,” she whispered. “Hey!” Edward turned back to her, looking distort.

“Oh it’s terrible,” he blurted out. Lolly looked at him puzzled.

“Why? What’s wrong?” she asked. The “angel” quickly grabbed her by the hands.

“It’s your nana!” he blurted out. “She’s… she’s… she’s about to die!” Lolly’s eyes widened in panic.

“Oh no!” she gasped. Edward nodded at her as he faked his tears.

“I’m afraid so. Even her body is rejecting my powers. Death really does want her tonight.” Lolly shook her head as she tried to fight back her tears.

“What can I do?” Edward put on a serious face.

“Get dressed and come with me to the creek outside of the city.” Lolly nodded at him once.

“Okay!” Edward smirked to himself as he watched her hurry into her bedroom to get dressed. So easy, that would fall asleep out of boredom if he didn’t wrap this up fast enough. Edward disappeared when his altar lamb quietly left the room. He reappeared at the given location and waited for the girl to come. Should take her about… ten minutes, tops. Hm, what to do until them? Could torture Little Alex in his dreams for ten minutes. Nah, not exciting enough. Better hold off on that until the flood gates were opened.

Edward was interrupted from his thoughts when he heard a small shuffle in the grass. He looked up and saw Lolly herself. The “angel” smiled to himself as he looked her up and down. “This is just too easy,” he thought. “She’s just a perfect little tool!

“Are you alone?” he asked.

“Yes!” Lolly said in a hushed tone. She slowly sank down onto her knees. “Tell me what to do.” Edward walked over to her smirking. He leaned down to her ear.

“You have to give up your life,” he whispered. Lolly looked up startled.

“WHAT?!?” she asked in shock. Edward lightly shushed her.

“Your grandma’s life is pulled away by a starving demon,” he lied. “The only way to stamp out this demon is for a pure soul to destroy it.” Lolly looked at him uneasily.

“And… only my soul can save her?”

“Yes!” Lolly took a second to think about it. Then, she nodded once.

“Okay, I’ll do it!” Edward smirked to himself as he transmuted his right hand into his infamous blade behind his back.

“Good choice.” Lolly shut her eyes and hoped for the best. Edward slowly drew back his blade and went in for the kill. STAB! Right through her developing chest. Lolly drew in a heavy breath before dying on the impact. Edward quickly drew out his blade. The girl fell in the creek below her and was washing down and out of the city. Edward licked the blood off his blade before it turned back into his hand. “Yum!” he thought. “Who knew the blood of a virgin tasted so good?” Edward turned back to the creek.

“Good girl,” he muttered as Lolly’s bleeding corpse floated away in the water. “You have served your purpose. This game was fun, but I have more important things to do now. So, goodbye, Lolly-pie!” Then, Edward disappeared into the night. Lolly’s blood flooded down to the gates underground.
