Dirty Dog:

Simone’s Notes:

The complexity of jealousy allows people to define it in different ways. Dictionary definitions describe popular meanings of jealousy. Scientific definitions emphasize aspects of jealousy that have received attention in theory and research. Despite differences in wording and emphasis, definitions of jealousy usually share basic themes. These shared themes indicate jealousy is a meaningful concept. Jealousy can also be distinguished from concepts such as envy. In simple terms, jealousy is a feeling of protective resentment towards one who threatens a relationship or value.

Mustang had a nice summer this year. Two promotions, a close and hot-looking female friend, Daphine as a sexy girlfriend, and he was finally getting over Hawkeye. That was until late one night. The major general was finally returning from the office after a long night of paperwork. All the man wanted now was to get home, have dinner, and go to bed. But, something would send him back into bitter jealousy. Mustang was walking down the hall back to his flat when something caught his eye. It was Jakob at Riza’s door. He had come in from the Activity Center downtown and had his schoolbag on his right shoulder. The major general recognized him right away. “He’s one of those Maywillow kids!” he thought. Roy’s head filled with questions pretty quickly. “Why is he at Riza’s door?” he thought. The general kept watching in silence. He tried not to let his mind wander to the worst. The door finally opened. Hawkeye came to the door dressed in a wine red babydoll that showed some heavy duty cleavage to the boy. Riza’s little lacy black panties were revealed under the sexy garment. Her hair was gracefully down with little red butterfly clips in the bangs. That wasn’t Roy’s biggest shocker of all. His ex actually had make-up on her face. “She never did that for me!!!” he thought in shock. “What the hell is going on?” Then, the wound was opened again! Roy noticed that Jakob was getting pretty excited by the dolled lt. standing at the door in front of him. They seemed to be talking to each other. Mustang couldn’t really make out what they were saying to well. “Wow, this is a nice surprise!” Jakob seemed to be saying. “You like it?” Riza seemed to ask him. “I got it yesterday on my day off.” Then, came the final nail in the coffin. Jakob leaned forward and kissed the lt. on the lips romantically. She kissed back. They embraced each other tightly. The lt. dragged her boyfriend inside. The door slammed shut behind them.

Mustang stood there in utter disbelief. The man had just been knocked back down into a new level of misery. “Riza dumped me for a kid?!?” he thought in crushed agony. “B-But… But… But why?!? That’s just not right! What’s he got that I don’t?!?” He was reliving his terrible spring again! “She dumped me for a kid!!!” he thought. *The man looks as if his ex told him that he was useless during a battle in the rain* Major general French, (she got promoted again for cleaning a political mess in the South,) would definitely be entertained for months on this latest failure of his. “Hawkeye left you for a high school boy, huh?” she would ask. “Hm, she must have gotten tired of your over-egotistical crap to go out for a younger man! I pity you!” That drove the major general to run all the way back to his flat in heated jealousy and despair.

Daphine was waiting on the couch for Mustang to get back. She had a great surprise for him tonight. The nurse looked like a porn star tonight dressed in a tiny black skimpy nightgown. Her hair, make-up, and nails were done to perfection. She even had the wine chilled and ready for him. Now all Daphine needed was Mustang here for the “play date.” Then, there was a knock on the door. The nurse turned in delight. “Once second!” she called out. Then, Daphine quickly rose to her feet and hurried to the door. She opened it wide only to find Mustang looked pretty crushed. The mood was dampened quickly. “Babe!” the nurse exclaimed. “What’s wrong?” The major general didn’t speak at all. He just grabbed the woman by her waist and held her tightly to him. Daphine held him as well. “Aw!” she said sympathetically. “Was your day really that bad? Come inside, we’ll talk about it. Then, the couple went inside the flat.

“Your ex is with a younger man, huh?” Daphine asked him over drinks. The major general nodded. He had told her everything about his little discovery. The nurse shook her head uneasily. “Oh damn,” she said softly. “That’s terrible.” Mustang finished his glass quickly. “Pour me another, Daph!” he called unhappily. “Okay,” his bird replied. Then, she poured him another glass of wine. He drank that one quickly as well. “Don’t over do it,” Daphine advised him. “You’ll be hung-over tomorrow if you do.” “I don’t care!” Roy said sharply. “I need more!” The nurse just sighed and shrugged. “All right,” she replied. “But it’s your work performance.” Then, she just handed him the whole bottle. This wasn’t how she planned the evening to go. But, what can she do? The major general was having his pity party again and something told her that this one was going to drag on for weeks. Unless… “Since Riza has Jakob now,” Daphine thought as she watched him down another glass. “I’ll have to step up and take control!” She sighed hard again. “This’ll be messy!” Daph thought. But, it just had to be done and she had to try and keep Mustang and Jakob from coming in twenty feet of each other. Who knows what could happen there? Damn, this was a list of chores. But, it had to be done.

The next morning began to the brutal work of keeping Mustang from killing someone. The major general was hung over and really upset. His nurse girlfriend followed behind in silence. According to Daphine, the Mustang pity party took place in seven stages: Drinking, denial, anger, pity jealous, self-defeat, sorrow, and acceptance. (There were some relapsing in between. But, that comes later.) So far, stage one was complete for the time being. “I have to keep a close eye on him today!” Daphine thought. “I don’t want to be the person he takes his frustration out on!” She could tell that stage two was fast approaching. It came when Mustang came near Hawkeye’s door. He paused when it opened. Jakob came out dressed in his maroon and sliver school uniform heading out to school. He was in a cheerful mood. Traces of bitter sparked in Mustang’s blood. “There is no f******g way Riza would choose him over me!” he thought. “I’m major general Roy Mustang! I have it all! Money, power, respect. Why would she choose a high school boy over me for? What could he possibly have to offer Riza?” Then, Roy felt someone put their arm around him. He looked down to see Daphine. “What do you want?” he asked. She looked up at him sweetly. “There, there.” Daph replied. “I’m here for you if you need me.” He wanted to see that he didn’t have any problems at all, but what was the use? She could see right there him. So, Roy didn’t say anything at all and just sighed in misery.

It was a grim day today at Central Headquarters. Mustang just wanted to put up a sign that said, “Don’t talk to me” on it. He just wished that he could lock himself away in a glass box and not talk to people. In the situation he had, the next best thing was to bury himself in paperwork and not say a word to anyone. He even went as far as to try and avoid French so not to make things any worse than they were for him. His subordinates were wondering what was wrong with him today. “You think he drank too much last night?” Fuery asked. “I don’t really know.” Havoc answered. They wanted to go and ask, but instinct told them that it wasn’t a great idea. They just didn’t want to trigger any monsters in his head. Hawkeye had her own theory but saying it would just be beating the dead horse again. “Poor soul!” she thought. Mustang wanted to bad-mouth Hawkeye in front of everyone but that would’ve been in vain.

Anger set in later in at lunch time. It was a time bomb waiting to go off. It came was Mustang was signing papers. He was thinking about how his subordinates, Havoc and Hawkeye in particular, were flirting (and sleeping) with people he just couldn’t stand. Jacilyn was on his mental hate list already. Now, there was a new name at the top. “Bad luck for Jakob!” Mustang thought hatefully. “You have made yourself a new enemy!” Come to think of it, he began to put the pieces together. All of the girls at the apartment had an attraction to him of some sort. “I should’ve taken it as a sign!” he thought in anger. “That boy’s on a mission to steal all of the girls’ hearts here! He’s already made off with Hawkeye’s! If I don’t stop soon, who knows what relationships will be destroyed!” The major general suddenly hated the word Maywillow and any kid that went there. His brain was now set on frowning upon and treating the students in this apart harshly. “I ought to make them want to leave this place!” he thought in angry ambition. (He’s not in his right mind at the moment.) Many plots of making the students miserable just wouldn’t leave his head. It was just that powerful. “Sir!” someone called him back to reality. Mustang quickly looked up to see Fuery standing in front of his desk.

The major general glared at the sergeant coldly. He rose up from his chair quickly. “WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT?!?” he snapped. Fuery became scared. “Uh…” he said nervously. “I just came with more paperwork sir…” The poor man wanted to get out of there as fast as he could. Mustang slowly calmed down. “I’m so sorry, Fuery.” he apologized quickly. Then, he took the papers and sat down. Kain saluted and got out of the office as fast as he could. Mustang sighed as he looked at his work. What would be the point of giving Jakob hell? It wouldn’t solve anything and Riza would hate him even more if he did. He lowered his head. “What am I going to do with myself?” The major general sighed again and got back to work.

The day kept dragging onward. Mustang just wanted to press fast-forward so badly. The man was caught between anger and self-defeat. It just all wouldn’t leave him all. There was no way for him to channel it all out. He had never felt this bad on a day like this. The man even wished that he hadn’t come home that night. His subordinates all avoided and didn’t talk to him at all for the rest of the day. The man didn’t even feel like finishing up with the paperwork. Roy just couldn’t focus. At the end of the day, there was still a stack of papers left over from today. Mustang sighed as he looked at the unfinished work. “It’s not due until tomorrow anyway!” he thought. Then, the man left quietly. He made sure that he didn’t run into anyone on his way out.

When he made it back to his flat, Mustang discovered a way to channel his frustration out. Daphine was waiting for him in the living room. They didn’t speak at first. “You calm down yet?” the nurse asked him strongly. The major general didn’t answer her at all. The man’s mood was mixed with anger and unresolved frustration. Daphine looked at him slightly worried. “Roy?” she asked. “Aren’t you going to say something or has Riza taken away any good sense that you had?” That was the final straw that broke the camel’s back. Mustang rushed forward and pushed Daphine onto her back onto the couch. He refused to let her up at all. He kissed hard on the lips. Daphine tried to fight him off but the general used all of his weight to hold her down. “Roy! *Kiss*” the nurse tried to yell out. “What the hell *kiss* do you think *kiss* you’re *kiss* doing?!?” The major general didn’t stop and forced open her blouse. Daphine was finally able to hurt Mustang in other to get him to stop long enough for her to talk. The major general looked at her like a vicious dog in heat. The nurse was panting hard. “What the hell are you trying to do?!?” she barked. The man didn’t want to hear any of this. “Shut up Daph!” he barked. His tone scared her. Mustang was never like this at all. Sure he had a tempter at times, but it was never like this. She had to do something fast.

“Roy Mustang!” Daphine yelled out. “If you don’t get off of me right now, I will phone the police!” Okay, that seemed a little weak, but that was the best that she could do at the moment. Mustang froze at that statement. “What the hell just happened?” he thought. This wasn’t what he really wanted. He just trying to find a way to get rid of the anger and hurt bundled up inside of him. Daphine just happened to be the innocent bystander in the way of his bitter wrath. This truly wasn’t what he wanted at all! The man sat up as if in a daze. The nurse sat up beside of him. Roy kept looking forward. “Daphine…” he began. “I’m on it!” his girlfriend called quickly. Then, she hurried to the kitchen to get him some wine and a glass. Mustang just sat there and sighed again. This was unbecoming for him. He still carried a torch for that gun-welding lt. A torch that he just couldn’t blow out. There just had to be a better way to get over Hawkeye. There just had to be.

In the end, Mustang was sleeping in Daphine’s lap like a sweet little puppy. The man had eight glasses of wine tonight. The nurse just shook her head to herself. She just didn’t know what she was going to do him. He was like a spoiled little child at times. She couldn’t complain however. His temper and arrogance was part of the package deal. She didn’t to help him fix it so that he could manage it all better. Daphine lightly leaned down and softly kissed him on the cheek. “Oh Roy!” she thought to him. “You may still carry a torch for Riza, but I’m going to win out in the end! Just watch me!” This was certainly going to be loads of work!
