Farewell Pt. 1:
Simone’s Notes:
Obsessive love is a hypothetical state in which one person feels an overwhelming
obsessive desire to possess another person toward whom they feel a strong
attraction, with an inability to accept failure or rejection. Although not
categorized specifically under any specific mental diagnosis by the DSM IV, some
people argue that obsessive love is considered to be a mental illness similar to
attachment disorder, borderline personality disorder, and erotomania." Obsessive
lovers may feel entirely unable to restrain themselves from extreme behaviors
such as acts of violence toward themselves. They may be entirely convinced that
their feelings are love, and may reject the idea that their severe obsession is
not love. Obsessive love has been frequently used and/or exaggerated in mass
media, often with a woman having such affections for a man in either a comical
or terrifying fashion.
Five Stages of
Letting Go
Six days before
the war began,
Edward tracked
down Winry at her apartment.
Overjoyed, she
opened the window.
“You came back!”
She tried to
pull him into her arms,
But he pushed
her away.
“I can’t.”
Denial
“But why?”
“I will only
drag you down with me.”
“No…”
“I am so sorry.”
“It can’t be…
You came back to me. You must have.”
He shakes his
head.
“I came here to
say goodbye.”
Anger
“You what?!”
“There is a war
coming.
I don’t want you
to get dragged into it.”
“Why did you
leave?!”
“I was poisoned
and turned.”
“You’re lying!”
“Haven’t you
noticed how I have
Changed over the
past two years?”
“So?”
“I am a
monster.”
“No, you’re not!
You are just a coward!”
He still won’t
change his course.
Bargaining
“I would do
anything to change the course of this.”
“Then why won’t
you?”
“I don’t know.”
“You…”
“I wish I could
turn back the clock to stop all of this.”
“Why are you
doing this?”
“I can’t stand
to see you and Derdra suffer because of me anymore.”
“You’re just
being a coward!”
“I’m so sorry.”
“Stop saying
that!”
“Then what do
you want me to say?”
Depression
She cried
against his chest.
He held her in
his arms.
It still hurt to
do this.
But, she and
Derdra would grateful later.
He still didn’t
know where he stood in this war.
Maybe he would
have an answer soon.
Right now…
“When this is
all over, let’s get out of this city, okay?”
She whimpered in
reply.
He patted her on
the head.
“Thank you.”
Goodbye
In the morning,
Edward was gone.
Still, he wasn’t
finished.
