Simone’s Notes:

A femme fatale is an alluring and seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. She is an archetypal character of literature and art. The phrase is French for "fatal woman." A femme fatale tries to achieve her hidden purpose by using feminine wiles such as beauty, charm, and sexual allure. Typically, she is exceptionally well-endowed with these qualities. In some situations, she uses lying or coercion rather than charm. She may also be a victim, caught in a situation from which she cannot escape; the Lady from Shanghai giving one such example. Her characteristic weapon, if needed, is frequently poison, which also serves as a metaphor for her charms. Her ability to entrance and hypnotize her male victim was in the earliest stories seen as being literally supernatural, hence the most prosaic femme fatale today is still described as having a power akin to an enchantress, vampire, female monster or demon. The ideas involved are closely tied to fears of the female witch. Although typically villainous, femmes fatales have also appeared as anti-heroines in some stories, and some even repent and become heroines by the end of the tale. In social life, the femme fatale tortures her lover in an asymmetrical relationship, denying confirmation of her affection. She usually drives him to the point of obsession and exhaustion so that he is incapable of making rational decisions.

Edward sat alone at the an outdoor restaurant the next morning. The sky was a heavy deep blue above. But today, his mind was elsewhere. The newly made incubus couldn’t corrupt Derdra for his own. He couldn’t taint his little angel. Derdra was too good for that. But this first craving was driving him off his rocker. Someone else would have to be his first. But who could he get his first taste from? Who? Who?

“Hey!” a voice called out to him. Edward quickly looked up to see Azrael standing in front of him. His fellow incubus was grinning at him wickedly. The alchemist just rolled his eyes.

“What do you want?” he grumbled. His fellow incubus sat down in front of him.

“How was it?” Azrael asked wanting details. Edward looked at him confused.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.

“Your date!” the other incubus said. “Did you nail her?” Edward’s cheeks turned red as he glared at him.

“You were spying on me?!?” he barked.

“Hey, what can I say?” Azrael asked harmlessly. “I like to watch!” Ed looked away pestered.

“Nothing happened!” he barked. The fellow incubus’s face dropped.

“Nothing?” he asked. Edward nodded.

“Why have you not?” Azrael asked him. The other incubus shrugged.

“Don’t know,” he said. “She wasn’t the one I guess.”

“What do you mean?” the incubus asked.

“Well,” Edward went on. “Maybe I need some bigger game!” Azrael smiled at that.

“Very well,” he said. “Let’s find you one!” Then the men began looking around.

“Look all around you!” Azrael called out. “There are many beauties for you to claim! Just choose one!” Edward looked around for a moment. The first one was a red-haired waitress. She looked about forty, but still had it going on. Her little black dress drew attention to her heavy set she called breasts. The waitress’s curves were still in the right places. Edward was liking what he saw.

“She looks nice!” he replied. Azrael studied her for a moment.

“Yeah,” he replied. “If you like next to dead and whiny drama!”

“Hm,” Edward said. Then he looked around again. Another one caught his eye. A young brunette girl was typing on her laptop on a distance table. She looked to be about college age. The black-rimmed glasses looked cute on her pretty face. Her nose was slender and cute like a puppy’s. The girl’s lips were rich and plump with red on them. Her cheeks looked soft and rosy. Edward smiled at the potential prize.

“She’s a good catch too!” he called. Azrael reviewed the next one.

“Not much of a choice,” he replied. Edward looked again. That’s when he saw her! The alchemist saw the perfect catch sitting across the street at a table beside. She had deep blackish-red her to her lovely shoulders. Her lips were the color of a rich pomegranate. Her cheeks were soft and powder white. Her skin was all a healthy glow. Her breasts even looked full and healthy in her deep green dress. She looked like a rich and kept woman. Edward smiled to himself wickedly. He knew that he just had to have her.

“Oh!” Edward called out. “If anything, I would definitely have her!” Azrael checked out the woman pretty closely. He was grinning too.

“You know,” the incubus said. “I can see that working!” But then, Edward looked disappointed. Azrael noticed his face.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Look!” Edward ordered. The other incubus did so. A man had joined the woman. He was general and he was kissing on the woman. Azrael and Edward could see that the couple were married by the rings on their fingers. The older incubus turned to the other one.

“So?” he asked. Edward just shook his head.

“She has a husband!” he pointed out. Azrael grinned at the general as he was leaving his wife to cross the street to bring her lunch.

“That can be easily fixed!” he replied. Then, he snapped his fingers. Out of nowhere, a car rushed forward and hit the man hard. He died as soon as he hit the pavement. Everyone came rushing out to the dead man. The woman stared on in crushed dismay. Edward looked on horror. He turned to Azrael in a panic.

“What the hell did you do?!?” he yelled out. The incubus said nothing. He just got up and walked away smirking to himself.

“Hey!” Edward yelled out. “Where are you going?!?” Azrael turned back to him smiling.

“You should look her up, Edward!” he yelled out. “Widows fly off the shelf fast!” Then the bastard disappeared into the crowd. The other incubus looked around nervously. What had he done now?

That evening, Edward did a little research. The woman’s name was Mrs. Connor. She lived on the other side of town. He made himself a map to get her house. The trip of took like thirty minutes long. Evening was setting in fast when he reached the end of his journey. The house looked empty and dark from the outside. But, Edward decided to try his luck anyway. He walked up to the front door and knocked on it. Sad footsteps shuffled up to the door. Edward waited patiently.

The door slowly opened wide. Mrs. Connor stood before looking like a lost little kitten. Her beautiful greyish-blue eyes were loaded with tears. Even though she had been crying, the widow still looked just as gorgeous as she did this afternoon. Edward took in her beauty for a long time.

“What do you want?” Mrs. Connor whimpered out. The incubus stood before her boldly.

“I am so sorry for your loss, ma’am!” he addressed her. The woman nodded uneasily. Edward looked around for a bit.

“May I come in?” he asked. The woman hesitated at first. Then she said, “Okay.” Edward nodded and walked inside. The widow closed the door behind them.

“My husband was a great man,” Mrs. Conner said as she fought back her tears. She and her guest were in her kitchen. It was a small like place. It was completely tidy. The floor was completely spotless. The wallpaper was a faded sun yellow. The only light on was the one over the sink. The moonlight through the red windows reflected the widow’s beauty in the night. The incubus just looked all around with his eyes while he listened to her talk. Edward was pretty impressed with the work she had done with the room.

“He was ever so kind to me! He never played around on me and he treated me like a princess.” the widow went on. Our last words to each other were my usual order at that place. Then he kissed me on the cheek and crossed the street.” Mrs. Connor broke down in tears and buried her head in her hands. Edward felt greatly sorry for her. He suddenly wished he hadn’t chosen her at all. “No!” the incubus thought in lust. “I have to have her for myself! No matter what!” He decided to play on her emotions to lure her in and gain her trust.

“It’s okay to grieve your loss.” Edward said softly to her. Mrs. Conner slowly looked up at him. Fresh tears stained her powder white cheeks. The incubus smiled at her sweetly. He nodded to her kindly. “You know that he loved until the day he died,” he went on. “He was good to you. Be happy that your last moment together was sweet and happy.” Mrs. Connor began to smile a little bit. Edward reached forward and wiped away her tears.

“There, you say?” he asked. “He wanted you to be happy that you had such great times together.” Mrs. Connor began to feel a little better.

Edward was about to get up and leave when he heard, “Wait!” The incubus paused and turned behind him.

“Yes?” he asked. The widow sat up straighter.

“Would you like to stay for the night?” she asked. “I know it’s late, but you look tired and I want you to stay.” Edward smiled at her.

“Sure,” he replied. “I would like that.” Mrs. Connor rose to her feet.

“Great!” she said. “I’ll go make us some tea.” Then she headed over to the stove and got to work. Edward sat back down at her table. He began unconsciously planning ways to make the widow his forever. His unsuspecting victim had no idea about the world she was about to enter into with this beautiful alchemist.
