Midnight Poison:

Simone’s Notes:

Two other Mesopotamian demons have a close relation to Lilitu, Gallu & Alu. Alu was originally an asexual demon, who took on female attributes, but later became a male demon. Alu liked to roam the streets like a stray dog at night and creep into people’s bedrooms as they slept to terrify them. He was described as being half-human and half-devil. He appears in Jewish lore as Ailo, here, he is used as one of Lilith’s secret names. In other texts, Ailo is a daughter of Lilith that has had intercourse with a man. The other demon, Gallu is of the Utukku group. Gallu’s name, like Utukku, was also used as a general term for multiple demons. Later, Gallu appears as Gello, Gylo, or Gyllou in Greco-Byzantine mythology as a child stealing and child killing demon. This figure was, likewise, adapted by the Jews as Gilu and was also considered a secret name of Lilith’s. The Book of Isaiah 34:14, describing the desolation of Edom, is the only possible occurrence of Lilith in the Hebrew Bible:

Morpho-syntactic analysis: "yelpers/desert-beasts meet-[perfect; 3pluralis] howlers/jackals; a he-goat/hairy-one/satyr calls out to/cries to-[imperfect; 3sing.masc] his mate/fellow. liyliyth rests/reposes-[perfect; 3sing.fem] and finds/acquires-[perfect; 3sing.fem] a resting-place."

KJV: "The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest."

The Septuagint translates the reference into Greek as onokentauros, apparently for lack of a better word, since also the saʿir "satyrs" earlier in the verse are translated with daimon onokentauros. The "wild beasts of the island and the desert" are omitted altogether, and the "crying to his fellow" is also done by the daimon onokentauros. It may be debated whether the verse is actually referring to liylith or a literal screech owl. Schrader and Levy suggest that Lilith was a goddess of the night, known also by the Jewish exiles in Babylon. Evidence for Lilith being a goddess rather than a demon is lacking. Deutero-Isaiah dates to the 6th century BC, and the presence of Jews in Babylon would coincide with the attested references to the Lilitu in Babylonian demonology. This view is challenged by Judit M. Blair. In Horace, Hieronymus of Cardia translated Lilith as Lamia, a witch who steals children, similar to the Breton Korrigan, in Greek mythology described as a Libyan queen who mated with Zeus. After Zeus abandoned Lamia, Hera stole Lamia's children, and Lamia took revenge by stealing other women's children. The screech owl translation of the KJV is without precedent, and apparently together with the "owl" in 34:11, and the "great owl" of 34:15 an attempt to render the eerie atmosphere of the passage by choosing suitable animals for difficult to translate Hebrew words. It should be noted that this particular species of owl is associated with the vampiric Strix of Roman legend. This possibly evolved from the early 5th century Vulgate Bible of the Christian Church, which translated the same word as Lamia instead.

Manami looked over at Edward sleeping next to her. He looked so worn out. “Busy night, huh?” she thought. The Fallen Princess kissed him on the lips. She could still taste the blood and liquor on him. “Mmm!” Manami thought. “He taste good!” Then, a tasty idea came into her mind. Why not give Edward the rest of her poison? He would then be the perfect right-hand. She already gave her own pets the poison. Why not her favorite slave? This should be a fun experiment.

Right then, Edward slowly woke up. Manami waited happily. She lightly kissed him on the lips again. This time, he kissed her back. She slowly climbed on top of him. The alchemist slowly took her into his arms. She slipped her tongue into his mouth. Edward gave her his own tongue in exchange. The love-drive began to heat up from there. Then, Manami broke off the kiss. Edward opened his eyes and looked at her confused. He opened his mouth to speak, but she lightly put her finger to his lips.

“Uh, uh, uh,” she whispered. “You’ll get it soon enough. I have something for you first.” Edward looked at her with big, happy eyes.

“Ooo, what is it?” he asked anxiously. Manami smiled at him wickedly.

“Wait here,” she told him. Then, she climbed off of him and disappeared into the kitchen. Edward watched her do so.

Manami walked over to the counter near the sink. She opened the top cabinet and felt around for her special candy. It only took seconds for her to touch the plastic. She reached in and grabbed her candy. “Excellent!” she thought. The bag was nearly empty now. The Fallen Princess had fed some to her pets last night. This should be feeling the mind-numbing affects right about… now! Manami smirked as she sensed it through her body. “This is so perfect!” she thought. Now to do the same to Edward. Manami returned to her bedroom.

Edward lied in bed waiting for her. His mistress smiled at him wickedly. The alchemist licked his lips at her.

“Well hello there,” he greeted her. “What do you have for me?” Manami closed and locked the door behind her.

“Shut your eyes and open your mouth,” she said seductively. Edward raised an eyebrow at her.

“You want me to shut my eyes?” he asked. Manami nodded. Edward smirked some.

“Alright,” he said. He slowly shut his eyes and opened his mouth. The Fallen Princess smiled at her slave. She walked over to him and climbed on top. Manami smiled right at him. “This is too easy!” she thought. The Fallen Princess pulled out her bag of candy and pulled one out. She unwrapped and placed it in Edward’s mouth. Manami slowly closed his mouth. She waited for a few more seconds. The incubus alchemist quickly opened his eyes. Through the heavy, swirling black and red, he saw his mistress with new eyes. Manami looked down at him, smiling.

“How do you feel now?” she asked. Edward smiled at her wickedly. He reached up and lightly brushed aside some of her hair.

“I love you, my mistress!” he breathed out. He reached out and pulled her down to him. He boldly kissed her on the lips. Manami was pleasantly surprised. She hadn’t expected all of this yet. Edward had actually… exceeded her expectations. This called for some celebrating. She kissed him back instantly. The Fallen Princess spread her legs and let him enter her. Edward got right to work almost immediately. Manami’s plan had worked perfectly. After this morning, Edward would perfectly be her lap dog into the dark brave new world. But yet, there were other things to think about before that could happen.

The love-drive lasted close to an hour before Manami rolled off of Edward and lied next to him, panting. Edward shut his eyes in high bliss as he was falling asleep again. Manami rolled over on her stomach and lightly kissed him on the cheek.

“Oh yes, you’ll do just fine,” she whispered. Then, the Fallen Princess climbed out of bed to take a shower. The poison was now active. We haven’t even reached the flood gates just yet. But don’t worry, that’s coming up real soon. Just sit back and watch the dark show.
