Finding Love Forever:

Simone’s Notes:

A soulmate, or soul mate, is a person with whom one has a feeling of deep or natural affinity. This may involve similarity, love, romance, friendship, intimacy, sexuality, sexual activity, spirituality, or compatibility and trust. In his dialogue The Symposium, Plato has Aristophanes present a story about soul mates. Aristophanes states that humans originally had four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. He continues that there were three genders: man, woman and the "Androgynous". Each with two sets of genitalia with the Androgynous having both male and female genitalia. The men were children of the sun, the women were children of the earth and the Androgynous were children of the moon, which was born of the sun and earth. It is said that humans had great strength at the time and threatened to conquer the gods. The gods were then faced with the prospect of destroying the humans with lightning as they had done with the Titans but then they would lose the tributes given to the gods by humans. Zeus developed a creative solution by splitting humans in half as punishment for humanity's pride and doubling the number of humans who would give tribute to the gods. These split humans were in utter misery to the point where they would not eat and would perish so Apollo had sewn them up and reconstituted their bodies with the navel being the only remnant harkening back to their original form. Each human would then only have one set of genitalia and would forever long for his/her other half; the other half of his/her soul. It is said that when the two find each other, there is an unspoken understanding of one another, that they feel unified and would lie with each other in unity and would know no greater joy than that.

Alex sat next to Toby’s bed in the hospital. He lowered his head by his crush’s hand. “I am so sorry,” he whispered. “This is all my fault.” Alex kissed Toby on the hand. The tears began to form in his eyes again.

-Two months earlier-

The boys walked towards the park in laughter and smiles. Toby stopped in his tracks.

“What were we thinking?” he asked. “I didn’t know that it would be so lame.”

“Me neither,” Alex replied. Toby sat down on the bench in front of them.

“It doesn’t matter,” he said. “We managed to leave the party before it got boring.” The confident boy patted the seat next to him. Alex looked at him slightly curious.

“You want me to…?” he began to ask. Toby nodded at him with a smile.

“Of course,” he said. “What do you think I mean?” Alex’s cheeks turned a bright pink.

“Right,” he said. “Sure.” The boy took a seat by his crush. Toby stared him in the face and smiled. Alex looked at him perplexed.

“What is it?” he asked. “Do I have something on my face?” Toby shook his head.

“No,” he said. “You look…” The cold breeze floated past them on their bench. Somehow, Alex wished that he could freeze time and stay in this moment with him forever.

“What?” he asked.

“It’s just…” Toby began again. He leaned forward and pressed a kiss on his lips. Alex sat there in shock. Could this really…? Nah, it can’t. Could it?

Toby slowly pulled away.

“I’m sorry,” he said. “Was that too much? Maybe we could go back to my place and…?” Alex shook his head.

“No,” he said. The boy leaned forward and kissed his crush on the lips again. Toby’s hands inched forward to hold him. Suddenly, a low whistle broke them up.

“And what do we have here?” a male’s voice asked. Toby and Alex looked up to see Edward walking towards them. Alex trembled by his crush’s side. The other boy held onto his hand.

“What the hell do you want?” Toby hissed. Edward walked over to them.

“I could ask you the same thing,” he said. The incubus looked between both boys. “Alex, who gave you permission to stray off to another?” he asked. Toby squeezed Alex’s hand.

“He is not your pet!” he hissed.

“Nobody asked you,” Edward told him.

“Well, I’m speaking anyway!” Toby shot back. “Alex is his own person. I don’t know what you did to him, but you have no right to hurt him anymore!” Edward gritted his teeth.

“This doesn’t concern you,” he hissed. Toby shielded Alex with his body.

“Anything about Alex concerns me!” he argued back.

“One more word out of you…” the incubus alchemist warned him with venom in his voice.

“Fuck off!” Toby shouted. Edward didn’t hold back his anger any longer.

“You little shit!” he barked. “Learn your place! Come here!” The next events happened so fast. Alex ended up thrown to the ground with scrapes and bruises, but Toby took the worst damaged. Edward slammed his head on his automail leg repeatedly. When he stopped, the boy’s body sank to the ground. The incubus sneered at him.

“You think I’m done with you?” he asked. Edward grabbed him by the jacket. “I’m not done with you yet!” Alex could only watch in horror as his master slammed Toby’s head against a brick wall the same amount of times.

“Stop! Please stop!” he begged. Edward only ignored him and kept beating up Toby until he was half-dead. He stood over his work, smirking.

“Now I’m done,” he said in a cold tone. The incubus alchemist disappeared into the night. When Alex got his wits back, he called for the ambulance.

-Now-

Alex laid his head down on the bed. Edward robbed him of his soul mate through senseless violence. If Toby ever woke up again, he might not ever be the same again. Alex tightly shut his eyes.

“I’m am so sorry, Toby,” he whispered. “And I love you so much. Please come back to me. I am lost without you.” More tears streamed down his face.
