The dominant meaning of "lesbian" until the 19th century still referred to Lesbos rather than any sexual identity. However, Pierre de Bourdeille, seigneur de Brantome, the French 17th century writer on sexuality, uses the term "lesbian", "dames et lesbiennes", to mean homosexual women, but according to David M Halperin the word is always still directly linked to the women of Lesbos:

"Lesbian" in this period, then, remained largely a proper name, a place name, a geographical designation - though as Brantome's usage indicates, a name strongly associated with sexual relations between women.

By the late nineteenth century the term Uranian came into vogue for both male and female homosexuals. The Oxford English Dictionary dates the word "lesbianism" to refer to a specific sexual identity or orientation to 1870, the word lesbian, as an adjective, to 1890 and as a noun to 1925. Until the early twentieth century the term lesbian was used interchangeably with the word Sapphist. From the 1920s "lesbian" became the most commonly used term.

Suri crept out of the apartment that she shared with Kain into the night. The nurse was on a date tonight. She was going to see Lucy again tonight. Everything was playing nicely in her favor. “Gladly!” she said quickly. The nurse sat down beside of her in joy. Lucy lied back on the cool sand. Her lover joined her. The stars in the sky above looked so beautiful tonight. This was really like the good old days. Just the nurse and the receptionist looking at the stars in a random place. Star-gazing was Lucy’s way of flirting with a girl. She won over many girls this way. Suri was always a sucker for this scenario.

Lucy crept her hand forward and held Suri’s. The nurse felt herself blushing happily. A smile came across the receptionist’s face. She leaned in close to her lover’s ear.

“I’ve got some sake cooling in the sake beside of me,” she said. Suri’s eyes lit up brightly.

“Oooo!!!” she called. “Really?” Lucy nodded. Then she reached over her and pulled out the bottle. The nurse watched happily. Lucy sat up and popped open the bottle.

“Want some?” she asked. Suri kept her smile. Lucy kept her smile.

“Open wide, then!” she called. The nurse did so happily. Her lover smiled at her wickedly. She knew the art of seduction so well. The receptionist began to slowly pour sake down into Suri’s mouth. The nurse drank up happily. Lucy smiled in satisfaction.

“Good, huh?” she asked. Suri nodded happily. Lucy helped her finish the whole bottle. She set the bottle aside. She turned to her lover again.

“There’s more where that came from!” she whispered to her. Suri looked right up at her.

“Really?” she asked. Lucy smiled at her again. She leaned down and kissed the nurse on the lips. Suri happily kissed back. Oh, this was like the good old days indeed. Lucy pulled away slowly for a bit. She leaned down close to her ear.

“Yep,” she replied. “Come home with me!” She didn’t need to say anything at all. Suri rose straight to her feet in an instant. Lucy smiled at her reaction.

“Lead the way!” Suri called out. Lucy kept her smile. She gently put her finger to Suri’s lips.

“Shhh!” she whispered. “Quiet down, can’t you see that you talk too loud at times?” The nurse nodded to her with wide eyes. Lucy smiled at her again and lowered her finger. She gently took her lover by the hand. The receptionist led her girlfriend all the way back to her house. Suri was grinning all of the way there. “Oh yeah!” she thought. “I’m getting some tonight, folks!”

Lucy pulled out her key and stuck it into the lock. She quietly unlocked the door. The condo was dark inside. Suri was really bursting with joy inside. It had been so long since she shagged another girl. This would be her first time with Lucy again in years.

“Lucy,” she called.

“Shhh!” her lover whispered. “Keep it down!” Suri nodded to her. The women made it through the living room and up the stairs. Lucy led Suri all the way to her bedroom. She turned to her lover smiling wickedly in the dark. She leaned in close to her.

Lucy smiled down at her as she slowly rolled off her dress. The nurse watched in happy delight. She was like a puppy about to play fetch with her master. Lucy smiled at the results. She still had the magic. She threw her dress to the ground.

“You like this, do ya?” she asked her secret girlfriend aloud.

“Yes!!!” Suri called out. “I love it!” Lucy smirked at her.

“Good!” she replied. The receptionist reached behind her and slowly began unhooking her black bra. Suri kept her eyes locked on her in excitement. Her heart raced in excitement. The ride was really taking off now. Lucy removed the bra and threw it to the ground. She quickly slid off her black lacey panties. Suri was looking up really happy now.
