Cold Heart Prude:

Simone’s Notes:

A prude is a person who is uncomfortable about sex, nudity, drugs, alcohol, and other vices. They tend to be modest to a fault. Some prudes force their belief of purity on others with an iron fist. The prude is widely looked down upon. They seem to be the wet blanket to the sexual party. Media has done a good job of airing this to the public. Prude also means someone who hasn’t done it yet!

Dr. Gail Mathis was without a doubt a cold-hearted bitch. She was like Dr. House with a tall glass of Dr. Cox on the side and little Dr. Bailey and Dr. Yang sprinkles on top. The only thing good about her is her skills as a doctor. She was excellent at treating the toughest cases known throughout Amestris. Many interns would try to study under her for their training program. That would seem like the only reason she still stayed at St. Mary’s Touch. But to tell the truth, most of the hospital would go to the dogs without her. She just uses touch love and bitter honesty to keep everyone to together. (But, enough about that, let’s go back to the main statement, shall we?) Everyday she walked through the halls spreading bitterness to everyone in her path. Her colleagues described the female version of Dr. House as a “bull dog in a coat.” Her long messy black hair hung on her shoulders like black curtains. Her grey eyes matched the perma-frown on her tired face. Dr. Mathis was a small woman with a might tongue and temper. The woman always looked so pale. (Many doctors whispered about how she needed to get out in the sun more often. The interns even called her Ms. Dracula when she wasn’t around.) She always wore dark clothes under her snow white doctor coat. The woman how a low and raspy voice that shot out venom and insults to anyone that passed her by. Her only friend seemed to be her long black and gold cane she used because of muscle damage to her left leg. Dr. Mathis’s one kick to the day was bringing misery to the other doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Touch. The equally cocky doctors and the lusty/whiny nurses were her favorite victims. Soldiers were under them on her list.

The day started out usual for Dr. Mathis. She verbally abused the receptionist at the front desk. The doctor mostly attacked him for his surfer-style haircut and heavy five o’clock shadow. He was red and close to tears when she got through with him. Gail smiled to herself as she processed onwards to the call of duty. Everyone always tries to stay out of her way. But it is all like jury duty; you just can’t avoid it that easily. Dr. Mathis looked around for some fresh juicy meat today. Her options seemed limited at the moment, but that didn’t stop her. They would all soon flood the hospital like a plague. Then, Dr. Mathis spotted Jacilyn coming out of her office. The head nurse had become her favorite target lately. The woman had a new boyfriend and she was in love this time. So far, Jaks managed to brush off any of the nurses opposed to her relationship with Jean Havoc because he was in the military. Dr. Mathis had the perfect taunt to bring the head nurse back to her old usual cranky self. Gail hobbled over to Jacilyn on her cane. The head nurse looked up just in time. “Here she comes!” she thought. Jaks braced herself for an annoying head-to-head battle.

Dr. Mathis made it to Nurse Ray. They looked at each other for a long time. “Hello, Dr. Mathis.” Jacilyn said bravely. The doctor said nothing and looked at the nurse up and down. “I’m sorry,” she said at last. “But who are you again?” Jaks didn’t flinch. “Very funny!” she called out. Dr. Mathis kept her face. “You really can’t be Nurse Ray!” she went on. “She’s a total bitch. You are just nice and *actually* smiling! Are you losing your touch?” “No!” the head nurse replied bitterly. “But, you’re so nice!” Dr. Mathis pushed on. “Wonder why?” Jaks rolled her eyes and walked away. Gail acted as if she was thinking hard on her question. Jacilyn decided to try and get as far away from Dr. Bitter as she could. It was the best thing she could do at the moment. Then, Gail pretended to have an answer. “Oh I get why!” Dr. Mathis yelled out. “YOU HAVE A REAL BOYFRIEND!!! NOT ONLY THAT, HE’S A PURE DOG OF THE MILITARY!!! WHO KNEW THAT THE HEAD NURSE OF ST. MARY’S TOUCH WOULD FALL FOR A SOLDIER OF THE ARMY?!?” That made the head-nurse walk away even faster. Gail grinned to herself coldly. “Great way to start off the morning!” she thought to herself. Then, she headed to her work. She was just getting started.

Jacilyn made it to her housemates at the nurses’ station. They didn’t need to ask what had happened. “Got shot down today, huh?” Daphine asked. “Yep.” Jaks replied. “What is with her anyway?” Derdra asked. “Dunno,” Anjia replied. “That’s just how she is.” A pause came over them. “So what can we do?” Izzie asked. “Don’t know.” Jessie answered. The nurses all stood around thinking for a long while. “Hey girls!” a voice called out. The nurses all looked up to see Dr. Howard herself. She had stopped by the hospital to treat some mental patients she was assigned to. “Hi Dr. Howard!” Derdra called out. “Where’s Simone today?” “She’s at the library during more research,” the physiatrist answered. “How is she coming on that?” Jessie asked. “Great!” Dr. Howard answered. “I expect her to have a whole encyclopedia on sex when the year is over!” The nurses smiled to themselves like a group of naughty schoolgirls. “And how has Gail been?” Dr. Howard asked. All of the nurses’ faces went grim. “Just as bitter as ever, I suppose?” the physiatrist guessed. “Yep!” Mia answered. “She got me this morning.” Jaks added. “Oh really?” Dr. Howard asked in interest. The head nurse nodded. The physiatrist smiled to herself like she had a juicy secret. “She’s on my back about Jean again.” Jaks carried out. This made things more interesting. Dr. Howard couldn’t help but titter to herself. “That’s Gail for ya,” she replied. “As soon as a tough cocky nurse finds a man, she outs them for doing so. Good old jealousy in action for ya. You know that she hasn’t had a boyfriend since high school?” The nurses stared at her in shock. “Are you serious?” Izzie called out. The physiatrist nodded with a smirk. This was a minor shock. The nurses had all guessed that Gail wasn’t getting any. But not since high school? Damn, no wonder she was so cranky at young couples necking in the hall! Then, they all broke into laughter after a short little pause.

“Hello there, Wendee!” a voice called out sharply. All of the women stopped laughing and looked up to see Gail herself. She had her usual frown on her face. She was glaring coldly at her. Her cane was holding her up perfectly well. (Many of the nurses wondered if she had ever hit anybody with that mighty stick. Daphine secretly wished that she would one day see Gail actually hit someone with her cane.) “Something funny, girls?” Gail asked. The nurses just kept smirking to themselves and trying not to laugh anymore. The doctor turned her glare back to Wendee. The physiatrist smiled at her. “Hi Gail!” she replied. The two doctors had been rivals since they both started here. Gail and Wendee were polar opposites of each other in personality and beliefs. Wendee saw the world with rose colored glasses and had a boyfriend two years ago. She even got along with most of everyone at St. Mary’s Touch. Everyone turned to her with their problems. Both were great at their professions. Everyone in the hospital wanted to see what would happen if these two ladies got into a fight. Well, today looked like a great chance to actually witness a confidence between them both.

“What are you doing here?” Dr. Mathis asked sharply. “Visiting one of my patients.” Dr. Howard answered. Gail glared at the nurses again coldly. They pretended to be working at the desk. “All while talking about my love life, eh?” Dr. Mathis questioned. “What love life?” Suri asked Derdra under her breath. “I heard that!” Gail snapped at the junior nurse. Suri acted like she wasn’t listening to the doctor and kept on with her work. Dr. Howard just shrugged at her rival. “It was just a little fun.” she replied. “Right…” Gail hissed. Wendee just shrugged and walked down the hall. Dr. Mathis watched her do so. She turned back to the watching nurses. “WHAT?!?” she snapped. The nurses quickly went back to work. Gail rolled her eyes and went back to work. The nurses smiled to themselves for the rest of the day. Now they knew that Dr. Mathis had her match.
