Aphrodite Pt. 2:

Simone’s Notes:

Romance can also be tragic in its conflict with society. Tolstoy also focuses on the romantic limitations of marriage and Anna Karenina prefers death to being married to her fiancee. Furthermore, in the speech about marriage that is given in Kierkegaard's Either/Or, Kierkegaard attempts to show that it is because marriage is lacking in passion fundamentally, that the nature of marriage, unlike romance, is explainable by a man who has experience of neither marriage nor love. In the following excerpt, from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Romeo, in saying "all combined, save what thou must combine by holy marriage" implies that it is not marriage with Juliet that he seeks but simply to be joined with her romantically. That "I pray that thou consent to marry us" implies that the marriage means the removal of the social obstacle between the two opposing families, not that marriage is sought by Romeo with Juliet for any other particular reason, as adding to their love or giving it any more meaning.

"Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set On the fair daughter of rich Capulet: As mine on hers, so hers is set on mine; And all combined, save what thou must combine By holy marriage: when and where and how We met, we woo'd and made exchange of vow, I'll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray, That thou consent to marry us to-day." --Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene II --by William Shakespeare

“I don’t want to go home tomorrow,” Jakob murmured in bed with his wife. “I just want to stay in this room with you forever!” The married couple was cuddled up close in bed together. They had just finished making love. Now, they were resting at the moment to catch the next ride. He and Riza’s honeymoon was coming to an end. They would have to go back to Central City in the morning. Both dreaded it so. It was as if waking up from a beautiful dream. So they were making this last night in the Honeymoon Suite last as long as they could. Riza lightly rolled over to him and kissed him on the lips.

“I know,” she said softly. “But we have to.”

“Don’t remind me!” the mouse complained. “I just want to enjoy this night before it ends.” He leaned in and kissed her again. The captain kissed back softly. Even kiss with him was even better than the last one. When they broke away, Riza just smiled at him sweetly. It was clear to hang onto what little time they had left together. So, she decided not to bring it up again.

“Have you decided on going to ARS yet?” Riza asked. Jakob looked deep into her wine red eyes.

“No,” he said. Hawkeye-Riis looked at him slightly confused.

“What do you mean?” she asked. Her husband just shrugged.

“I just don’t know,” he replied. “I just got married. I won’t make a decision I see Naomi’s results.” Riza just smiled at his answer. She loved how he was loyal to his family. She just leaned in and lightly kissed her husband on the nose. Jakob kissed her on the lips. She was like sweet-tasting honey and wine to him. He just couldn’t get enough of her. She was just as addictive as their love. They broke away slowly.

“How was the mission?” Jakob asked innocently. Riza just nodded innocently.

“Fine,” she replied. “It’ll make a nice report to Mustang.” Both went grimace at that last statement. Both remembered a nasty little fact. Nobody knew the real reason they were in the western city. Nobody knew that they had just gotten married three weeks ago. Now, tomorrow they had to go home. That only meant one thing.

“Are you going to tell Roy yet?” Jakob asked his wife.

“Not yet,” Riza replied. “Are you going to tell your mother?” Jakob just shook his head.

“I’ll tell her when you tell your boss.” he answered bravely. Silence passed over the couple. Then they both giggled to each other to each other. They knew what the looks on their disapproving close ones’ faces. Roy and Esther would go insane. But that was one chance they would have to take.

“Let’s tell our friends separately and Roy and mom together, okay?” Jakob offered. Riza looked her husband smiling. He was a charming young man. His ocean blue eyes were holding her strong soul hostage with love. His strong beautiful hand was lying on his pillow open and waiting for her to take it in her own. No man had ever had such a strong effect on her like Jakob. Even Roy just couldn’t compare. The captain had no choice but to say yes. She lightly took his hand in a loving embrace.

“Anything you like!” she told him. Jakob smiled at her again.

“Okay!” he said to her softly. Then, they kissed once again. The silence fell over them sweetly once more. But, Hawkeye-Riis just had to destroy it again to ask more question.

“Jakob,” she said innocently. Her husband smiled at her tenderly.

“Yes?” he asked innocently. Riza began to smile at him.

“Can we come back here more often?” she asked so sweet and childlike. Her husband smiled at her and lightly kissed her on her forehead. His wife giggled at her gingerly. His lips were so warm on her lovely soft flesh. Jakob looked at her smiling with those laser blue eyes.

“Yes,” he replied. “As many times as you want to get for a romantic weekend!” Riza’s eyes lit up in great happiness. The feminine side of her was fully awake tonight.

“Thank you, Mr. Riis!” she chirped breathlessly. Jakob smiled at her wickedly.

“Anything for you, my love,” he told her tenderly. “Now,” The mouse quickly climbed on top of the golden retriever. Riza stared up at him in happy surprise. She knew what was coming next. In fact, the captain had been waiting for it ever so patiently. Jakob grinned at her devilishly.

“I want around round with you!” he exclaimed. Riza smiled at him graciously.

“Yes, Mr. Riis!” she exclaimed out in a happy girly tone. “Take all you like, Mr. Riis!” Jakob just smiled at her again wickedly. He gently played with her jasmine-scented long blonde hair.

“I sure will!” he called out. Then, they kissed again and began making love in their paradise one last time before leaving in the morning. The honeymoon would end on a sweet note with these two. Now, it would be time for the rough challenges that waited for them up ahead.
